Def Jux‘s abstract prince, Aesop Rock, is coming back with another LP, Labor Days, which proceeds the incredibly acclaimed Float, an album that is still selling copies and getting excellent feedback. Prepare yourself for Aesop’s non-stop, sometimes off-beat flow as he brings some undecipherable bars and cynical lines on the a-side, “Coma”. The production, courtesy of Omega Red, isn’t too impressive, but it’s semi-funky enough to grab your attention for just a second. On “Maintenance“, he brings more of a traditional flow, which provides relief for the anti-abstract hip-hop heads, but the vaguely interpretable lyrics are still present. Never fear, you’re still getting Aes’ Rock, but instead, he’s accompanied by not-so-good production. Any heads who are still feeling this joint will be disappointed to know that it’s not supposed to appear on Labor Days. Despite minor flaws and any personal distastes, this lead single is worth the purchase, mainly as a holdover until Labor Days hits the streets.
