Apani is kinda inconsistent. She’ll drop a gem like Bioraff Volume 1 (Spot Me b/w A Million Eyes) that has you almost ripping through the cover to get at it,
and then she’ll drop a pretty average joint like this. The a-side, Strive, produced by Nujabes, is a deep track that displays about 1% of her skill. She talks about her determination, and her will to Strive (duh), but it doesn’t come off as either sincere or flatout sick…more like the kinda cut you’ll listen to once and abandon. The beat, however, is pretty tight. Nujabes, although I’ve only heard 3 of his beats, has produced a few tracks that made my head nod, this not being the best, but still a hot beat. The b-side just isn’t tight. Nujabes drops an ok instrumental, but Apani again ignores her amazing skill, and rhymes about a topic that she doesn’t flip right at all. A VERY wack track, unfortunately. Her next joint better be ill if she wants to hold her title as my favorite femcee. I wouldn’t recommend getting this if you’re
interested in good hip hop. [HeadLine]
