Soulcrate Music is a hip-hop trio hailing from Sioux Falls, South Dakota and consisting of Absolute, Def, and Dirt Dee. Together these three (3) artists combine to bestow some of the most imaginative, heart felt; intensely raw hip hop music fans can hope to hear. Stacked with all the essential nutrients, and vitamins that hip hop deficient fans need, Obviously Bothered is a magnificently delicious treat. Expect to hear more from Soulcrate Music as time ticks on, because these artists are making noise, and listening to their music is time well spent. Obviously Bothered is the groups sophomore release, and it couldn’t be more scrumptious, and, or mouth watering. In each and every jewel studding the eighteen (18) track release, the group’s high energy, flavorful style, charismatic aura, reflective injection, and intensely raw dynamics shine bright. Each and every song is well received, and appreciated. The songs flow nicely into one another to create a never ending flow of exceptional hip hop music. The albums most notable tracks include “Please Feel Free”, “Hypnotized People”, and “Less Than Worse”.
The albums creativity is best seen through “A Well Dressed Mess”, tracks thirteen (13) to eighteen (18). Track twelve (12) is very interesting as well as it features an enlightening array of creative sounds, mixing, cuts, and scratching. DJ Absolute, the crews DJ, is blazing with fire in his veins in “Oh No” (track 12). Forget what’s got you drunk before, if it’s not “Absolute”, it’s not true intoxication. As for “A Well Dressed Mess”, fans are left to wonder what exactly this mixture of tracks is, and why it’s all grouped together. “A Well Dressed Mess” simply seams like a bunch of tracks that maybe were grouped together because they were nameless? Either way, the music continues to stay tight, fresh, creative, and exciting. Track fourteen on the release is amazing. A very conceptual track that is well appreciated, and easy to relate to. This track is followed by track fifteen which is explosively raw, featuring some amazing tongue spinning lyrics that will blow your mind to exile. “A Well Dressed Mess” is a well flavored flow of dynamite.
The production featured on “Obviously Bothered” is amazing. The cuts, mixes, and scratching is refreshing. The album artwork is very conceptual and catchy; although it could use a tad more hip hop flavor to attract more hip hop eyes. Some fans won’t recognize this is a phat hip hop release from the cover art. The lyrics are extremely well put together, catchy, and overall emphatic. No doubt fans will be quick to get addicted on their first fix in the mix.
The crew’s originality is dominant in their music. Soulcrate Music defines themselves well within their beats, and lyrics. They aren’t trying to fit into anyone else’s style. Their music is uniquely their own. Their material is diverse, always keeping fans interested in the mix, but at the same time making sure every word, beat, and track flows real nice in harmony with everything else on deck.
Critics will critique the album artwork for not being more urban / hip hop oriented, and for not including more information about the group, and their music inside the albums jacket. The group does provide website links, and email address in the cover, but all fans aren’t wired, and some fans really like to pop open the jacket, smell the paper, and read more about the group and their music. There isn’t much to critique with the music itself, as everything is on point; although, no ones perfect, and there is always room for improvement.
Expect to hear much more from Soulcrate Music in the future. This group will continue to make much more noise, and deliver to fans world wide some exceptional hip hop music to enjoy. Fans need to recognize, and tune into there music as they will not be disappointed; infact they will be absolutely delighted. Obviously Bothered is a sure shot purchase that should be spun in heavy rotation. It’s a solid sophomore release, and deserves pure listening attention.
